On November 16, a rainy wet day we held our annual club hunt. Although it was rainy, 22 club members participated in the hunt. At least four other members attended to watch he event. Joe Lipsius brought some diggers and other items of intrest for sale. The landowner, Mr. Garrett made an appearance and was presented with a shiny silver dollar. I think everyone appreciated the use of his nice sandy soil for hunt.
I found 61 dimes, 5 quarters, 2 halves and 1 token using a White's Spectrum XLT. During the hunt I used my 5.3" coil and after the hunt I switched to my larger coil. Using the larger coil I found 3 of my coins (2 dimes and 1 quarter). Many folks reported digging coins as deep as 6 inches and many coins were on edge. While hunt coins are usually planted shallow, the deeper coins did allow for a more challenging hunt. I dug my token at 6+" deep. I got a signal but I could not get it to repeat. I switched to all metal mode and found the area I needed to dig. I brushed the dirt and grass from side to side looking for a slit that was present for most of the deeper plants. Finding a slight cut I placed my 12""" gator digger a few inches behind it and lifted up. This caused the cut to open revealing the #48 token at the bottom. My prize? A 2002 Silver Dollar! Many folks stayed after the main hunt despite the rain to slow down and recover more of these deep coins.
